With the support of Mazda Motorsports and Everki Backpacks, Bryce took to the track at Sonoma Raceway for his debut Spec MX-5 sports car race. The Spec MX-5 Challenge Series is an introductory series to get a drivers feet wet in the world of MX-5 racing before stepping into the Global MX-5 Cup Series. The goal for Bryce entering the weekend? Prove that an open wheeler can make the transition to a sports car quickly. In doing so, that would mean challenging some very talented and experienced drivers in the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series. Cornet’s success could prove enough to warrant a bid for this year’s Mazda Motorsports Road to 24 Shootout.

Saturday

Bryce proved to be quick after only one Friday practice day by laying down a time .2 seconds from pole position, which placed him in 3rd. But, after light contact in qualifying, Bryce would be penalized four positions and would start seventh in race #1 on Saturday. Bryce would race through the field to set the fastest lap time in the race by .3 seconds and be hard charger moving up three positions to 4th.

Sunday

After a so-so Saturday, Cornet knew there was more to be achieved. With a better starting position of 4th and the opportunity to race with the leaders was within reach. After a good start, Bryce moved into 2nd through corner 3B of Sonoma Raceway, now his eyes set on the leader. On lap three, Cornet made a move on the outside of the leader into turn 6, but could not get the pass done. A close race would ensue between the top three, but was disbanded as lapped cars were reached with about four laps to go. Bryce would stay clean through lap traffic to finish 2nd.
